ALLIANCES
An alliances is an agreement between two or more countries to give help when needed. The countries in the alliance are called allies. By 1914, the six major European countries were split into two alliances. In 1882, the Triple Alliance was formed between Germany, Austria – Hungry and Italy. In 1907, Britain, France and Russia formed the Triple Entente. In each of these agreements, countries promised to provide military support if one of their allies were attacked by a member of the opposing alliance. One of the main reasons the formation of the alliance system was to keep peace. However, it is also meant that war between two countries would lead to a war between all six countries. . . . Many of the alliances and treaties were negotiated in secret or contained secret clauses which created additional suspicion and tensions. . .
